TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file a report on the Federal Legislative trip to Washington, D.C.

DISCUSSION
As Chair of the Federal Legislation Committee, I traveled to Washington, D.C. from March 23 - 26, 2014 to discuss a number of issues with the City's federal delegation, members of Congress and several federal agencies. These issues include:

• Funding for dredging the federal channel in the Los Angeles River Estuary;

• Amending the feasibility cost share agreement to allow for accelerated and contributed funds for the East San Pedro Bay Ecosystem Restoration Study;

• Funding for Shoemaker Bridge environmental clearance and design;

• Full utilization of Harbor Maintenance Tax (HMT) revenues for traditional HMT operations and maintenance purposes;

• Funding for Workforce Investment Board job training services; and

• Other issues noted the City's 2014 Federal Legislative Agenda.

The trip was productive and enabled Long Beach to communicate the City's federal legislative priorities to our delegation, which is an important component to maintaining strong connections with our federal representatives. The Federal Legislation Committee will continue to monitor issues of federal importance closely, and work with the City's government affairs staff to advance Long Beach's 2014 federal legislative priorities.
