TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file the Long Beach City College 85th Anniversary Gala and call for nominations of those who are examples of the Viking Spirit.
DISCUSSION
Long Beach City College opened its doors as Long Beach Junior College in 1927 on the campus of Wilson High School, then moved to Carson Street in 1935. In 1949, it opened a second campus on the former site of Hamilton Jr. High, where it offered vocational and technical programs to the returning veterans. Today, both campuses offer quality academic education and vocational training for more than 27,000 students.
The two campuses comprise the Long Beach Community College District and serve the cities of Lakewood, Long Beach, Signal Hill and Avalon.
For the past 85 years, the students, faculty and staff have made outstanding contributions not only to Long Beach City College but to the surrounding communities.
In celebration of such excellence, a 85th Anniversary Gala will be held on Thursday, May 30 at 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm in the Hall of Champions.
Nominations are being solicited now for past or present faculty and staff members who have "made a difference." Nominations for the "Viking Alumni of the Decade" are also being requested for any alum you know and respect for their LBCC spirit, career accomplishments, community service and dedication to LBCC.
