Washington, D.C., February 25 - 27, 2013.

DISCUSSION
On February 25 to 27, I traveled to Washington, D.C. as Chair of the Federal Legislation Committee to discuss federal issues of importance with our delegation and the Administration, accompanied by Government Affairs staff and supported by the City's federal advocate Van Scoyoc Associates.

Attached is a list of meetings we participated in while in Washington, DC. Among the issues discussed were the following:

•Funding to dredge the federal Los Angeles River Channel

•Funding and approval of the rescoping of the East San Pedro Bay Ecosystem Restoration Study

•The Wetlands Mitigation Funding plan for the Los Cerritos Wetlands and future wetlands restoration projects

• Zero-emissions projects, 1-710 Goods Movement projects and the Shoemaker bridge replacement

• Protection of Homeland Security funding and the preservation of the regional collaborative approach to distributing funding

•Changes to the Federal Highways Administration's practice regarding allowing local hiring agreements with non-federal funds

• Support for the Marketplace Fairness Act to support a nationwide standard for internet sales tax collection

• Support of the current tax-exemption for Municipal bonds

• The impact of Sequestration on the City and the City's position that the federal deficit be reduced through a more balanced and deliberative approach.

• Other issues on the City's Federal Legislative Agenda.
