DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Aramexx Group, Inc., for the Termino Avenue Greenbelt Restoration.

The City of Long Beach (City) and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works (LACDPW) have worked together since 1993 to alleviate flooding problems by construction of a storm drain in an area that extends from the intersection of Redondo Avenue and Anaheim Street southerly to the Colorado Lagoon.

As part of the above operation, a new storm drain was constructed in the section of the Pacific Electric right-of-way (P.E. ROW), between 7th Street and 8th Street, (otherwise known as the Termino Avenue Greenbelt). Now that the construction of the new storm drain is completed, the restoration of the landscaping in this section of the greenbelt can take place. The proposed Termino Avenue Greenbelt Restoration Project involves the reinstatement of the landscaping in this section of the P.E. ROW, between 7th Street and 8th Street. The project scope includes the following:

· Removal of dead trees and vegetation.
· Planting of drought tolerant native shrubs and trees.
· Installation of a manual irrigation system.
· Construction of ten-foot-wide decomposed granite pathways through this section of the greenbelt.
· Repair of existing perimeter fencing and the installation of new picket fencing and gates at specified locations.
· Provide wood mulch ground cover.
