TITLE
Recommendation to respectfully request City Manager to work with appropriate staff to present an oral report on the City's coordinated traffic and law enforcement preparations in anticipation of the West County Connector project's 7th Street Connector closure.

DISCUSSION
On April 18, the 7th Street connector, which facilitates traffic movements on the 405, 605 and 22 Freeways will be shut down as part of the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA)'s West County Connectors project.

This closure, which will displace thousands of commuters per day, will last approximately 12 months. Palo Verde Avenue and Studebaker Road will be marked as detour routes, and will be heavily affected, as will East side neighborhood streets. In anticipation of the closure, our City Traffic Engineer and long Beach Police Department have worked closely to develop mitigation and
enforcement plans, and to coordinate construction dates with OCTA and Caltrans in an effort to lessen impacts. At the commencement of the closure, it will be vital for our various departments to be prepared and on-point.  As we near the closure date, it is appropriate that the City Manager and staff
provide an oral report to Council on its prepared response.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
