(District 9)

DISCUSSION
The infrastructure on Cherry Street from Harding Street to the North City Limit is in need of rehabilitation. The rehabilitation work consists of replacing damaged curbs and gutters, driveways, alley entrances and sidewalks; trimming and root pruning trees;
reconstructing areas of deteriorated pavement; cold milling and resurfacing the pavement; and installing a traffic signal interconnect system, pavement markers, markings, traffic striping, signing and curb paint. A vicinity map of the area is attached.

City Council adoption of the plans and specifications and award of the contract to the lowest responsible bidder are being recommended concurrently to expedite implementation of this project. The project was advertised for bid on October 19, 2007, and the bids were opened on November 21, 2007. Information regarding Silvia Construction, Inc., and the other bidders is provided on the attached contract awards document.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Amy R. Burton on December 3, 2007, and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on December 3, 2007. In accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act, Categorical Exemption No.
CEP 725-02 has been issued for this project.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action on this matter is requested on December 11, 2007, to authorize commencement of this Public Works project. Construction is projected to begin in February 2008 and should take approximately 50 working days.

FISCAL IMPACT
