TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay the sum of $12,500 in full settlement of lawsuit entitled Barrows vs. City of Long Beach.
DISCUSSION
This case involves an automobile accident which occurred on March 13, 2006 on Seventh Street and Ximeno Avenue. The Plaintiff was stopped in her vehicle behind a bus when she was rear-ended by a police vehicle.
Plaintiff sustained soft tissue injuries totaling $6,900.00. She also claimed lost income and out-of-pocket cost for the repair of her vehicle of $1,150.00.
After negotiations, the parties tentatively agreed to a full and complete settlement, inclusive of all costs and fees in the amount of $12,500.00.
The proposed settlement was presented to the Economic Development and Finance Committee on April 17, 2007 and was approved on that date. We therefore ask authority to pay the sum of $12,500.00 in full settlement of this claim against the City of Long Beach.
