TITLE
Recommendation to request that the Public Safety Advisory Committee be asked to hold a public discussion regarding racial profiling and include in that discussion ways to educate the public on the issue, including the very basic question "What is racial profiling?"; and request that the Long Beach Police Department be involved in that discussion, as well as other interested parties.

DISCUSSION
Over the years , the subject of racial profiling has been discussed in our
neighborhoods, by our residents , particularly in times of increased police
enforcement against crime spurts. Because this issue can be of particular
concern in communities of color, it may be necessary for a public discussion to
take place so that the issue of "racial profiling" can be thoroughly defined
discussed and vetted in an educational format.
Recently the Long Beach Police Department underwent an extensive statedeveloped
training on racial profiling that included Chief Batts and all sworn
officers in the department. The public could very well profit from the knowledge
gained through that training.
, therefore, request that the City Council receive a verbal report at a future date
from the Chief of Police regarding the department training recently received by
sworn personnel.
