TITLE
Recommendation to adopt resolution declaring a vacancy in the office of the Second Councilmanic District; and either call a special election or appoint a person to fill out the remainder of Dan Baker's term, and request City Attorney to initiate the appropriate procedures to carry out that option.
DISCUSSION
In a memorandum from the City Attorney's Office dated February 9,2006, (attached), the City Attorney advised that it is appropriate to adopt a resolution declaring a vacancy in the office of the Second Councilmanic District. That resolution is attached for your review and approval.
In addition, the City Attorney advised that with regard to filling the vacancy, the City Council has two options - either to call a special election or to appoint a person to fill out the remainder of Mr. Baker's term.
Therefore, it is requested that you choose one of the options and request the City Attorney to initiate the appropriate procedures to carry out that option.
