DISCUSSION
On July 25-30, 2006, I attended the League of California Cities 2006 Mayors
and Councilmembers Academy: Executive Forum and Advanced Leadership
Workshops in Monterey, California.
The League of California Cities is an association of California city officials who
work together to influence policy decisions that affect cities. Through the
education and advocacy of its 478 member California cities, the League has
helped enhance the quality of life for all Californians.
The purpose of the 2006 Mayors and Councilmembers Academy was to
provide information and training on how to address critical issues facing
California cities. Seminar topics included: the unique planning challenges in
working with the Coastal Commission, protecting local government interests
in telecommunications services, working with City Managers and Department
Heads, ethics laws and principles, health and safety of children, California
water supply, role of commissions and commissioners, and much more.
The forum and leadership workshops help city officials obtain the information
and resources needed to build better communities.
