DISCUSSION

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine was notified of the awarding of two successful grant applications, through two grant programs administered by the California Department of Parks and Recreation, for projects at Seaside Park. The Land and Water Conservation Fund (Fund) and the California Youth Soccer and Recreation Development Grant Program (Program) were highly competitive statewide grant programs with an overwhelming number of grant applications.

Funding in the amount of $218,605 has been awarded through the Fund for the development of Seaside Park. Development construction includes picnic areas, a ball court, a walking path, and landscaping. Another $210,877 in funding has been awarded through the Program for the development of a youth mini-soccer field at Seaside Park (Attachment #1 - site plan).

This item was reviewed by Senior Deputy City Attorney Donna F. Gwin, on December 27, 2005, and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on January 5, 2006.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on February 1/1 2006, in order to sign the grant agreements in a timely manner.
