TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute an agreement with Marsh USA, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $50,000 to provide casualty brokerage services for excess liability, excess workers' compensation, and other miscellaneous liability policies for three years; and authorize City Manager to extend the agreement for two additional, one-year periods as appropriate.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION

In October 2008, the Department of Human Resources conducted a Request for Proposals (RFP) for brokerage services relating to the purchase of insurance for general liability, airport liability, excess workers' compensation services and other miscellaneous liability policies. The City received three (3) proposals. After an intensive interview process, Marsh USA, Inc. was selected based on a combination of pricing, market expertise, and identified insurance options.

City Council action is requested to authorize an agreement in an amount not to exceed $50,000 with Marsh USA, Inc. As the world's largest insurance broker, Marsh is uniquely qualified to serve the City in purchasing appropriate insurance.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Amy Burton on May 27, 2009 and Budget and Performance Management Bureau Manager David Wodynski on May 28, 2009.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested at the June 16, 2009 City Council meeting to ensure a timely renewal of liability and excess workers' compensation insurance.

FISCAL IMPACT
The total amount of the agreement is $50,000 and is budgeted in the Insurance Fund (IS 390) in the Department of Human Resources (HR).

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
