DISCUSSION
The Workforce Development Bureau (Bureau) and the Long Beach Community College District (District) collaborated with a consortium of community and industry partners to respond to a grant solicitation from the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office for an Industry-Driven Regional Collaborative Project (Project). The District subsequently received a grant award of $587,319 in support of the joint Port Opportunities Grant Project. As part of the grant deliverables, the District is contracting with the Workforce Development Bureau in the amount of $91,980 to provide employment and job development services to residents by covering the cost of one-half of a full time equivalent of an Employment Specialist within the Bureau.

The Project is designed to prepare logistics workers for careers in supply chain management, expand awareness of career opportunities available through the overall Logistics-Goods Movement Industry, increase the number of trained applicants for local programs, and enhance the basic skills of job seekers. The Project closely ties to the Bureau's recent logistics industry grant from the State, and will target local unemployed and underemployed adult workers and young adults with an interest in the available career opportunities.
