TITLE
Recommendation to direct City Manager and request Executive Director of the Harbor Department and General Manager of the Long Beach Water Department to initiate contract enforcement proceedings to determine possible default and termination of contract with Prudential Overall Supply.

DISCUSSION
The City of Long Beach "Values Statement" states, "The City's Business Is Service. We are committed to providing quality service to our diverse community in ways that are helpful, caring and responsive." The professionalism of our employees is exhibited in their commitment to providing this quality service with pride in their work, in their dedication to public service, and in being the best they can be. The manner in which city employees present themselves to the public is a source of pride for our city that the City Council should seek to maintain at the highest level.

It has recently been brought to our attention that the level of service provided by a city contractor may not conform to the specifications established in their bid to provide uniform service to the City. Under the terms of the contract with Prudential Overall Supply, the contractor is obligated to:

"The Contractor shall keep garment in a presentable condition acceptable to the City at all times. Worn or unsatisfactory garments shall be replaced on an "as needed" basis at no charge to the City."

The terms and specifications provides for the termination of the Contract without liability for damages when, in the City's sole opinion, the Contractor is not diligently performing or otherwise not complying in good faith with the Contract, including defaulting in the performance of the Contract, if such default is not cured after a ten (10) day notice given by the City.

Given the concerns expressed by numerous employees regarding level of service provided by the contractor, we would like the City Council to direct the City Management to initiate proceedings to determine possible default and termination...
