DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to authorize the City Manager to enter into annual contracts for furnishing and delivering video surveillance cameras and related system components. Over the past several years, the City of Long Beach has deployed video surveillance cameras to enhance public safety in our community. These cameras have proven to be a cost-effective tool for preventing, deterring and investigating crimes.

In September 2010, the Technology Services Department (TSD) assumed responsibility for the technical support of the cameras and telecommunications infrastructure connecting the cameras to the City’s network. TSD has continued to repair and maintain the existing cameras, as well as install new cameras at various locations throughout the City’s facilities, parks and the public right-of-way. As funding is identified, TSD, in collaboration with the Long Beach Police Department, plans to continue to maintain current systems and expand the use of video surveillance cameras across the City.

The bid was advertised in the Press-Telegram on May 1, 2012, and 200 potential bidders specializing in technology hardware for video camera systems were notified of the bid opportunity.
