TITLE
Recommendation to request City Attorney to prepare an ordinance amending Chapter 2.52 of the Long Beach Municipal Code in order to suspend activities and operations of the Public Safety Advisory Commission.

DISCUSSION
Public Safety Advisory Commission (PSAC): The Public Safety Advisory Commission is charged with making policy recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on public safety issues. Commissioners and staff have reported that PSAC has not met since September of 2008 due to a lack of agenda items to consider. Over all, very little or nothing has been directed to this Commission in well over a year and half.

The estimated annual costs savings to the Police Department for this recommendation is at least $5,000 in staff hours and materials. Since the commission hasn't met with any frequency for almost a year, the cost analysis is based on activity pre-2008.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

MAYOR BOB FOSTER
