TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on attendance at the California Contract Cities Association Annual Municipal Seminar in Indian Wells, CA.

DISCUSSION
I attended the California Contract Cities Association 47th Annual Municipal Seminar in Indian Wells from Thursday evening, May 18th through Saturday, May 20th, 2006. As a part of this seminar, I participated in a panel discussion with Los Angeles City Councilmember Janice Hahn entitled "America's Port (Los Angeles & Long Beach): Growing Pains"and presented a powerpoint program on our city's Port of Long Beach. Steve Afriat moderated the hour-long discussion.

As the City's representative on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), member of SCAG's Good Movement Task Force and Transportation Committee, and member of the City's 1-710 Oversight Committee, my expertise brought an added dimension to the port discussion concerning goods movement in this region.

Other topics discussed at the Seminar were:
- Eminent Domain
- Emergency Management Communication Systems
- Campaign Ethics
- WI-FI Telecommunications
- State Budget
- League update on Legislation and Housing

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
