TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay sum of $145,000, in full settlement of lawsuit entitled Constance D. Oden v. City of Long Beach, Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC511450.
DISCUSSION
This case involves allegations of retaliation, violations of the California Family Rights Act, and discrimination based on race and color of former City employee Constance D. Oden when she was not selected for a promotional Recreation Superintendent position or Interim Recreation Superintendent position in March 2012.
Following a Mandatory Settlement Conference, Plaintiff, the Estate of Constance D. Oden, agreed to accept $145,000.00 - for attorneys’ fees and costs - as a full, global settlement of this case.
The settlement was discussed in closed session, and approved, by the Government, Personnel & Elections Oversight Committee on March 15, 2022.
