TITLE

Recommendation to request an update from City Manager on the status of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Measure M sales tax increase on the November 2016 ballot and its potential impact on Long Beach.

DISCUSSION

The Board of Directors of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has voted to place a sales tax increase on the November 2016 ballot for Los Angeles County.

The measure will increase the sales tax by % cent indefinitely to fund transportation infrastructure projects throughout the County. The measure also indefinitely extends the % cent sales tax approved by voters in Measure R in 2008, and impacts the timeframes of some of the transportation projects that were identified in Measure R.

We request a presentation from the City Manager on the ballot measure, including what projects that may impact Long Beach are identified in the ballot measure, and the timeframe for those projects.

Given the time-sensitivity, we request the study session be conducted within 30 days.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no significant fiscal impact with this request.
