TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute an agreement with the California State Library to accept and expend grant funding in the amount of $60,000, for the California Public Library Broadband Project for networking equipment; and

Increase appropriations in the General Grants Fund (SR 120) in the Library Services Department (LS) by $60,000, offset by reimbursement grant revenue.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION

The Department of Library Services was selected as a recipient of the California Public Library Broadband Project, Branch Connections grant, funded by the California State Library. This grant will fund network equipment including wireless access points (APs) and uninterruptible power supplies for Bach, Burnett, El Dorado, and Mark Twain Neighborhood Libraries.  The equipment purchased with these grant funds will replace current equipment and add more wireless APs to each of the four branches.  All equipment must be purchased and installed by June 30, 2018.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Amy R. Webber on September 22, 2017 and by Revenue Management Officer Geraldine Alejo on September 28, 2017.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

City Council action is requested on October 17, 2017, to receive and expend the funds by the grant due date.

FISCAL IMPACT

The City will receive reimbursement funding of up to $60,000 for the period of December 19, 2016 and ending June 30, 2018.  An appropriation increase in the amount of $60,000 is requested in the General Grants Fund (SR 120) in the Library Services Department (LS).  No match or in-kind service mandate is required, and there is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
