TITLE
Recommendation to authorize a Public Walkways Occupancy Permit for sidewalk dining at Blondie's Restaurant located at 2259 Lakewood Boulevard.  (District 5)

DISCUSSION
Spirits and Styles, Inc., the operator of the Blondie's restaurant, requested a permit to temporarily occupy part of the adjoining sidewalk at 2259 Lakewood Boulevard with portable fixtures for the purpose of sidewalk dining. The proposed permit area and a list of furnishings and accessories to be placed in the permit area are shown on the attached Exhibit A. Approval of this permit is based on the conditions and standards of Chapter 14.14 of the Long Beach Municipal Code, which describes temporary uses of public rights-of-way. The main portion of the sidewalk is 10 feet wide, and a recently constructed sidewalk modification created a 25-foot wide area in front of Blondie's operation (see attached sketch). The proposed permit area is designed to make maximum use of this space, maintaining a 5-foot clear path all around. This permit request was reviewed and approved by the Long Beach Fire Department on June 13,2005. The subject permit was prepared by Deputy City Attorney Lisa Peskay Malmsten on June 30,2005.
