TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1,000, offset by the First Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to support the Philippine Independence Day Foundation, Inc., Parole Lantern Festival; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $1,000 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
The Parole Lantern Festival Committee is proud to present the 4th annual Long Beach Filipino festival of lights. They are highlighting their culture, its rich history and sharing of music, dance, delicious cuisine and lantern making to Long Beach on Pine Avenue. Did you know that Filipino Americans are the second largest Asian ancestry group in America, with nearly two million right here in California? The U.S. cities with the largest number of Filipinos are right here in Los Angeles County along with San Francisco.
The parole lantem is becoming a recognized symbol from the Philippines thanks to 2019's festival which debuted with hundreds of guests. The star-shaped lantern represents the Star of Bethlehem that guided the Three Kings to Bethlehem and symbolizes light over darkness and the Filipinos' hope of goodwill during the holiday season.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
With only a single meeting happening in December, this item to support the Parole Lantem Festival taking place on December 20, 2021 must be added to the December 7, 2021 agenda
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation provides District Priority Funds to support the Parole Lantern Festival in the First Council District.
