TITLE

WITHDRAWN

Recommendation to receive and file a recognition of Nino's Ristorante Italiano for celebrating its 55th Anniversary as a landmark family-owned Long Beach Italian restaurant.

DISCUSSION

Nino's Ristorante Italiano, a Long Beach institution, is celebrating 55 years in business in Bixby Knolls.

Vincenzo and Inge Cristiano arrived in Long Beach in May 1957 from Europe, with stops along the way in Calgary, Canada and Bogota, Columbia. Despite just having arrived in this country and not being able to speak English, their goal was to open their own restaurant within a year.

They both got jobs working at restaurants, and late at night, Vince would drive around Long Beach neighborhoods looking for the perfect location to open their restaurant.

They identified a location at 3853 Atlantic Avenue and built their restaurant. They decided to name the restaurant after their first son. Nino's Ristorante Italiano opened on July 31st, 1958.

Nino's is a family restaurant serving traditional cuisine, with some families representing five generations of patrons. The entire Cristiano family participates in the operation of the business, and they are active in the community, including being a key part of the First Fridays Art Walk.

As part of their 55th Anniversary, Nino's is offering dinner and drink specials, sponsoring a chalk art contest at the restaurant on Saturday, August 3, and hosting the Bixby Knolls Supper Club on Monday, August 5.
