TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to amend Contract No. 33287 with Sunpeak Construction, for an additional $86,639 for change order-related expenditures associated with the improvement of the Bayshore Avenue North, Bayshore Avenue South, and 62nd Place Restrooms (Tidelands Beach Restrooms - Bid Package 2); and execute all documents necessary to complete the construction of these beach restrooms, for a revised total contract amount not to exceed $949,139. (District 3)
DISCUSSION
On July 23, 2013, the City Council authorized the City Manager to execute a contract with Sunpeak Construction for an amount not to exceed $862,500 for the improvement of the Bayshore Ave. North, Bayshore Ave. South, and 62nd Place public restrooms. These restroom facilities were in significant disrepair and in dire need of renovation or reconstruction. While these restroom facilities were substantially completed and opened to the public in time for the Memorial Day weekend on May 24, 2014, additional contract authority is needed to close out the project and complete work associated with unforeseen conditions. The original cost estimate per location was:
i. $223,100 for Bayshore Ave. North (196 Bayshore Ave.)
ii. $313,950 for Bayshore Ave. South (Bayshore Ave. and 54th Place)
iii. $325,450 for 62nd Place (62nd Place and Ocean Blvd)
In order to close out the project and complete all needed work, additional contract authority of $12,247 is needed for Bayshore Ave. North; $72,486 is needed for Bayshore Ave. South, and; $1,906 is needed for 62nd Place, to address unanticipated repairs at these restroom facilities. Significant roof, dry rot, and termite damage was identified at the Bayshore Ave. South restroom and adjacent concessions stand during construction.
