DISCUSSION
The City of Long Beach, in conjunction with the City of Signal Hill, is in the process of widening Cherry Avenue between Pacific Coast Highway and 19th Street. Right-of-way for the street widening is being acquired from 15 parcels. Two of the parcels are subject to formal irrevocable offers to dedicate that were established when the parcels were subdivided. It is appropriate at this time to accept areas designated “future street,” as needed to complete this project.

In 1992, with Parcel Map No. 23137, an irrevocable offer to dedicate street right-of-way of varying width was created over the west edge of Parcel 1, also known as 1856 Cherry Avenue. Only 47 square feet of the area designated as future street is needed at this time to complete the Cherry Avenue street widening, as shown on the attached Exhibit A.

In 1997, with Parcel Map No. 24543, an irrevocable offer to dedicate street right-of-way was created over the east edge of Parcel 1, also known as 1883 Cherry Avenue. Only 1,213 square feet of the area designated as future street is needed at this time for permanent street right-of-way. An additional 938 square feet of the area designated as future street is needed for temporary construction purposes. Both the future street and temporary construction easement areas are shown on the attached Exhibit B. Upon completion of the street widening project, a quitclaim of the area taken as a temporary construction easement shall be executed and recorded.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Linda Trang on June 21, 2011 and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on June 27, 2011.
