TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute a public walkways occupancy permit for sidewalk dining at Georges Greek Café located at 5316 East Second Street.  (District 3)

DISCUSSION
Georges Greek Cafe BS, LLC, the operator of Georges Greek Cafe, located at 5316 East Second Street, requested a first time permit to temporarily occupy part of the adjoining sidewalk for the purpose of sidewalk dining. The Malvasia restaurant previously occupied this space and the current operator proposes no changes to the permit area configuration. The proposed permit area and a list of furnishings and accessories to be placed in the permit area are shown on the attached Exhibit A.

Approval of this permit is based on the conditions and standards of Chapter 14.14 of the Long Beach Municipal Code, which describes temporary uses of public right-of-way. The width of the sidewalk at this location is 13. 5 feet. A minimum clearance of 5 feet shall be maintained on the sidewalk between the permit areas and the parking meter adjacent to the restaurant.

This permit request was reviewed and approved by the Long Beach Fire Department on January 25, 2006. The subject permit was prepared by Deputy City Attorney Lisa Peskay Malmsten on March 21, 2006.
