TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute an agreement with the Law Offices of Michael M. Peters to assist City departments with Civil Service disciplinary hearings.
DISCUSSION
The City Council is requested to authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement with the Law Offices of Michael M. Peters for an amount not to exceed $250,000.00, in order that they may continue to represent City departments in the prosecution of disciplinary matters before the Civil Service Commission.
Due to the passage of Proposition Fin 2007, the City Prosecutor's Office was relieved of the duty of representing City management in disciplinary matters before the Civil Service Commission. Because the City Attorney's Office represents the Civil Service Commission itself, it is prohibited from providing such services to the departments. Accordingly, the City has contracted with the Offices of Michael M. Peters in order to provide such services.
