DISCUSSION
City Council action is requested to authorize acceptance of a $25,000 grant awarded by the Knight Foundation Fund, via the Long Beach Community Foundation, to assist in preparation of a comprehensive update to the City's existing BMP.

The BMP update will represent the intersection of the best health, planning and mobility policies, and will include an implementation and funding strategy to increase the overall livability index of the City. The BMP update will assist the City in prioritizing projects and include other Best Management Practices from throughout the State, country, and other countries like Denmark and the Netherlands. The implementation strategy will include short-, mid- and long-term priorities, ranging from small-scale to large-scale projects. Community outreach will be expanded to include recreational riders, large businesses, and destination locations, as well as our existing network of bicycle enthusiasts and activists. The resulting BMP update will lead to improved development standards and specific changes to the zoning code to require additional bike infrastructure in all new commercial and residential development projects.
