DISCUSSION

Partnerships for Families (PFF) is an initiative of First 5 LA aimed at the prevention of child maltreatment. Focusing on pregnant women and high risk families with a child age 5 or younger, the program includes direct prevention services, capacity building, and performance monitoring and accountability. Within each of the County's eight Service Planning Areas (SPAs), a Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Regional Office area is being targeted to receive program services during the first phase offunding.
Within SPA 8, the DCFS Torrance Office area was selected. The DCFS Lakewood Office area, which includes the City of Long Beach, is not currently targeted but may receive funding in the future.

Since 1996, the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Center for Families and Youth has been an active participant in the SPA 8 Family Support Collaborative, coordinated by the South Bay Center for Counseling (SBCC). First 5 LA recently awarded the SPA 8 Collaborative the PFF contract for the DCFS Torrance Office area. The National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence of South Bay (NCADD/SB) is serving as the Collaborative's Fiscal Lead Agency for this program, and SBCC is serving as the Program Lead Agency. NCADD/SB is entering into subcontracts with members of the Collaborative to provide PFF service components.
