TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager and appropriate staff to work with the Long Beach Police Department and the Long Beach Unified School District to identify potential ways to partner, share resources, and to ensure school assets are secure.

DISCUSSION
Recent break-ins and thefts at area schools have resulted in significant property loss and require a comprehensive community response. The City is a partner in ensuring our schools are safe and protected during times of operation but also can playa significant role during time of closure. Schools assets are valuable from a monetary perspective and playa vital role in securing opportunities for our youth. Budget constraints make this a challenge and an opportunity.

We request city staff to conduct outreach to the school district to identify potential ways we can partner, share resources, and better secure school assets during the vulnerable non-operational hours.

Specific Questions may include but not be limited to the following:
·      Creating a School Watch Program
·      Waiving School Alarm Fees
