DISCUSSION
The Federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds received annually by the City are administered by the Workforce Investment Network, and used to pay for career development programs and business services delivered by the Career Transition Center, the Youth Opportunity Center, Torrance Career Center, and the Center for Working Families.

The Workforce Investment Network engages the professional services of local community-based organizations to augment intake, job development, counseling, vocational assessment and other related services at its One-Stop Career Centers.
UAW-Labor Employment and Training Corporation (UAW) and California State University Long Beach Foundation (Foundation) were selected through a prior Request for Proposal competition; the requested period of performance of July 2008 through June 2009 represents the final year of that three-year procurement.

Through the ongoing One-Stop Career Center services contracts with the Network, UAW and the Foundation will provide additional project coordination, case management, business outreach, and job development services in support of projects under the Workforce Investment Board's priority industry focus areas of healthcare, construction and building trades, utility and energy production, and transportation/goods movement. Amendments to Contract #29919 adding $345,000, and to Contract # 29803 adding $245,000, are requested to cover the extended term of July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009 and additional project services.
