DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested to enter into an annual Citywide contract with Ocean Blue Environmental, Inc., to provide as-needed hazardous waste removal services to comply with health and safety regulations, in accordance with pertinent federal, state, county, and local laws. As specified in the contract terms, the contractor shall be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and shall respond to emergencies in 30 minutes after receipt of call for emergency order. The participating departments in this contract are Long Beach Airport, Development Services, Fire, Gas and Oil, Harbor, Health and Human Services, Library Services, Police, Parks, Recreation, and Marine, Public Works, and Water.

The bid was advertised in the Press-Telegram on May 20, 2011 and 388 potential bidders specializing in hazardous waste removal services were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those bidders, 18 downloaded the bid via our electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the seventh floor of City Hall, and the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing . A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 30 local, minority, and women’s business groups.
