TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute an easement deed to be granted to Southern California Edison (SCE) for overhead and underground electric transmission lines.  (District 4)

DISCUSSION
In the mid-1960s, adjustments were made to the street right-of-way on Willow Street between the San Gabriel River and Coyote Creek that resulted in existing overhead transmission towers and wires being located in the southern portion of the newly created El Dorado Nature Center.  The locations of these lines are shown on the map attached.  These transmission towers and wires have remained in place since constructed in the 1960's and continue to be a vital part of SCE's transmission infrastructure.  Recently, SCE's staff discovered that a recorded easement for these facilities does not exist and have requested that the City of Long Beach formally grant and execute this easement to correct this omission.   Staff has reviewed the request and confirms that such an easement should have been recorded back in the 1960's and is recommending that the City Council grant the easement.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Linda Trang on February 24, 2011, and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on February 23, 2011.
