TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $500, offset by Second Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a contribution to New Image Emergency Shelter for the Homeless, Inc. for their 27th Annual Children’s Christmas Store operated on December 18, 2021; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $500 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

New Image Emergency Shelter for the Homeless, Inc. operated their 27th Annual Children’s Christmas Store on December 18, 2021. This event provided toys, shoes, refreshments, and a visit from Santa for children of homeless and low-low income families.

The organizers put out a call for assistance in the week prior to the event as the need was greater than they had toys and shoes to provide. They had more children from homeless and low-income families referred by social services agencies, community businesses, and churches, who provided their proof of eligibility, than they had donated items. As this event served children across the region and in recognition of the increased need this year, the Second Council District would like to support it with District Priority funds.

This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on December 21, 2021.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager Department to provide a contribution to New Image Emergency Shelter for the Homeless, Inc. for their 27th Annual Children’s Christmas Store operated on December 18, 2021. The total appropriation increase of $500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Second Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and a have minimal impact on meeting other City Council priorities There is no local job impact associated with the recommendation.

SUGGESTED ACTION
