TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1,000, offset by the Second Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide a donation to Kahlo Creative LLC for the Absolute Best of Long Beach Awards 2022; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $1,000, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
The Absolute Best of Long Beach Awards 2022 is an event that highlights the best small businesses, community organizations, service providers, local attractions, and artists throughout the City. Throughout the month of February residents were able to nominate their local favorites in each Council District using dedicated landing pages. In March, residents were able to vote on entries in a variety of categories from each District to determine the winners of the Absolute Best of Long Beach Awards. This event also highlights a “District Hero,” or individual who has made a difference and significant contributions to their community. An awards ceremony honoring the District Hero and the winners from each voting category is scheduled for April 16, 2022 at Long Beach City College.
The Absolute Best of Long Beach Awards 2022 is an opportunity to give credit to the many small businesses and individuals that help make our City a better place to live. It is appropriate for the City Council to support programming, such as this event, that uplifts individuals and businesses that make our community special, yet to do not often receive the recognition they deserve.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager Department to provide a contribution to Kahlo Creative LLC for the Absolute Best of Long Beach Awards 2022. The total appropriation increase of $1,000 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Second Council District one-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and a have minimal impact on meeting other City Council priorities There is no local job impact associated with the recommendation.
