TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund in the City Manager Department (20) by $8,520, offset by the First Council District one-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to support the installation of neighborhood pride banners in the Washington Neighborhood; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund in the Citywide Activities Department (70) by $8,520 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
The First District is comprised of many unique neighborhoods, each with their own character. Over
the last few years, the First District office has worked with a local design firm and many of our
neighborhood associations to develop their own visual identities through a neighborhood branding
project.
This beautification project will add 120 decorative street-pole banners to corridors in the Washington
Neighborhood including Long Beach Blvd., Pacific Ave., Magnolia Ave., and Anaheim St., as well as
the perimeter of Washington Middle School and 141h St. Park. This project will improve the public
realm in this neighborhood and will help build neighborhood pride. Habitat for Humanity Greater LA
is a collaborating partner on this project and will be funding the purchase of the banners. The First
District will fund upfront costs for the installation, banner hardware rental fees, and the ultimate
removal of the banners.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation provides funds to the City Manager Department to support the installation of
neighborhood pride banners in the Washington Neighborhood. The total appropriation increase in the
General Fund of $8,520 in the City Manager Department (20) is offset by a decrease of appropriation
of First Council District one-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund in the Citywide Activities
Department (70). Completing this work is anticipated to result in a minimal impact to staff hours
beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is in line with existing City Council priorities.
