DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to amend Contract No. 36016 with Infotech Institute, Inc., dba Healthcare Career College (Infotech), to continue providing occupational skills and clinical training to program participants through Pacific Gateway programs.
On August 24, 2021, the City Council authorized the execution of an agreement with Infotech, who provides occupational skills and clinical training, such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Home Health Aid (HHA), to program participants through Pacific Gateway programs as part of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs. The City contracts with numerous educational organizations to provide a wide variety of training opportunities as required to meet program participant needs. There are currently more than 100 similar program providers. An amendment is requested to accommodate the provision of estimated training needs from this provider for the next calendar.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Amy R. Webber on November 1, 2021, Business Services Bureau Manager Tara Mortensen on November 8, 2021, and by Budget Operations and Development Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on November 12, 2021.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action to amend Contract No. 36016 is requested on December 7, 2021, to ensure continuation of services.
FISCAL IMPACT
This contract is supported by funding from Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and other employment and training related grants. Sufficient appropriation is budgeted in the Community Development Fund Group in the Economic Development Department. This recommendation has no staffing impact beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is consistent with existing City Council priorities. Approval of this recommendation will support training, skills enhancement, and employment opportunities for Long Beach residents.
