TITLE
Recommendation to adopt resolution authorizing City Manager to execute an agreement with Anvil International, Inc., to provide various gas pipe fittings, parts, tools, specialized equipment, and other services in an amount not to exceed $150,000; and the term of the contract will be for one year with the option for two additional one-year extension periods, which will be executed at the discretion of the City Manager. DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into an agreement with Anvil International, Inc., for the purchase of various gas pipe fittings, parts, tools,' and specialized equipment used by the Long Beach Gas and Oil Department (LBGO) for the maintenance of the City's natural gas pipeline system. The agreement will also provide for the replacement and repair of Mueller pipe tapping equipment, as necessary.
LBGO is responsible for the regular maintenance of the City's natural gas pipeline system, as well as the modification of the system for the addition or removal of customer service lines. Specialized pipe tapping equipment is regularly used by LBGO staff to add and remove pipe and pipe fittings. The City has purchased and utilizes proprietary Mueller gas tapping equipment, which can only be used in conjunction with Mueller fittings and parts.
Anvil International, Inc., is the sole Southern California regional distributor for Mueller products.
This item was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Richard Anthony on January 11, 2007 and by Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on January 12, 2007.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council approval is requested on February 6, 2007 to authorize the purchase of necessary inventory items without advertising for bids. The term of the agreement will be for one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods.
FISCAL IMPACT
The cost of this agreement, in an amount not to exceed $150,000, is included in the Gas Fund (EF 301) and in the Long Beach Gas and Oil Department (EN). The cost of the agreement will be recovered through LBGO gas customer rates.
