TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute all amendments and documents necessary to increase the aggregate total contract authority for existing firms currently under contract: Kleinfelder West Inc. (Local), Ninyo and Moore Corp., Group Delta Consultants Inc., Psomas Corp., Twining Inc. (Local), Totum Corp. (Local), Ghirardelli Associates Inc. (Local), and Willdan Engineering, (none MBE/WBE) for as-needed certified materials testing and inspection, and construction management services by $2,000,000, for a revised total not to exceed $10,000,000, and to extend the term of each contract to January 31, 2015. DISCUSSION
The City of Long Beach has historically used certified materials testing and inspection, and construction management services to ensure compliance with the engineering design and materials specified in various as-needed capital projects. This is necessary as the City’s Public Works Department does not have the capacity to provide construction management services on highly specialized projects using in-house staff, particularly in specific areas in construction such as new building construction, tenant improvements, parking structures, storm drain structures, and certain areas of marine construction. These services have been needed for projects being developed by various City Departments, such as Airport, Development Services, Health and Human Services, Library Services, Parks Recreation and Marine, and the Tidelands area.
Several of these firms are currently managing a wide variety of projects including Chittick Field Park, Schroeder Hall, Orizaba Park, the Port Administration Building, Pine Avenue Improvements between Seaside Way and Anaheim, Alamitos Park and various other projects, many which are in development and under peer review, out to bid or scheduled to begin construction within a few months.
