TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute all documents necessary to enter into a contract, including any necessary amendments or subcontracts, with the California Department of Public Health, in an annual amount of $169,605 for the period of July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2024, for a total contract amount not to exceed $848,025, to receive and expend assistance funds for Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Prevention and Control Activities, with the option to extend the agreement for two additional one-year periods, at the discretion of the City Manager; and
Increase appropriation in the Health Fund Group in the Health and Human Services Department by $848,025, offset by grant revenue. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Control Branch is awarding the City of Long Beach $169,605 in assistance funds for STD prevention and control activities. Fifty percent (50%) of the $169,605 award will be provided to a community-based organization (CBO) to provide STD investigations, partner notifications, and linkage to care. The Health and Human Services Department (Health Department) will continue to provide support activities for those who are infected with an STD, including monitoring, prevention, case investigation, and linkage to care. The partnership between the Health Department and selected CBO will assure testing, treatment, and disease transmission is mitigated for those who are at the highest risk of contracting a STD.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on February 4, 2020, to execute a contract with CDPH in a timely manner.
