DISCUSSION
On June 20, 2006, the City Council approved acceptance of $65,307 from the State to commence pandemic influenza preparedness- The 2007 State of California Budget included an allocation of State General Funds to local health jurisdictions to continue this effort. The City has been awarded $235,436 to be used to develop the local jurisdiction’s pandemic influenza preparedness and response plan consistent with State guidance, develop public health laboratory capacity, develop risk communication messages, improve disease surveillance and epidemiology, and develop plans for use of quarantine and medicine distribution.

The year 2007 will be the fifth year the City has been awarded a sole source agreement by Los Angeles County for Public Health Preparedness and Response for Bioterrorism ($1 ,187,655). This year also includes our second award for Cities Readiness Initiative ($381,593) funding and a new pass-through of a federal award for Pandemic Influenza Preparedness funding ($140,625).
