Love Beyond Limits is a Long Beach 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing exceptional enrichment and leadership development opportunities to youth in the greater Los Angeles area and throughout the country. The organization offers youth opportunities to create and mold their own unique experiences through a wide range of educational and leadership activities and resources. On May 19, 2023, Love Beyond Limits hosted their 10th Anniversary “Connecting Beyond Limits” awards ceremony and fundraiser serves as an opportunity to increase the mission and vision of the organization. A $500 contribution will help Love Beyond Limits continue to provide services and programs to our community.

The Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization that serves the Bluff Heights neighborhood in the Second District. The neighborhood is recognized as a Historic District and extends from Redondo Avenue on the east to Junipero Avenue on the west, 4th Street on the north to East Broadway Avenue on the south, omitting Carroll Park and Lowena Historic Districts. The Association regularly hosts events dedicated to community relationship building, education, historic preservation, public safety, and neighborhood beautification designed to enhance the quality of life among its residents. A $250 contribution will support their annual 4th of July Block Party.

Long Beach Forward is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to working with Long Beach residents and partners to tackle institutional issues stemming from racial and income inequity. Their mission is to create a healthy Long Beach with low-income communities of color by building community knowledge, leadership, and power. On May 6, 2023, they held a fundraising event, “Blossoming,” at Organic Harvest Garden in North Long Beach. The event featured a Mediterranean buffet, a hosted bar, entertainment, and children’s activities. Long Beach Forward also provided tours of the garden and animals for children during the event. A $250 contribution helps Long Beach Forward continue to organize community members, collaborate with partners, and provide leadership development opportunities.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide contributions to Love Beyond Limits to support their 10th anniversary event, the Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association to support their 4th of July Block Party, and Long Beach Forward to support their fundraiser. The total appropriation increase of $1,000 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Second Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and have a minimal impact on meeting other City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with the recommendation.
