DISCUSSION
The 2nd Annual Long Beach Disability Pride Celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26th, 2023. This annual event aims to hold space for people with all disabilities to be proud of who they are, what they look like, to honor their struggle and to ask the non-disabled community to do the same. The disabled community continues to be forgotten and equitable access to basic needs in life are all too often left unmet, leaving many people with disabilities to feel unworthy, left behind and shunned. With the rise of disability, equity and inclusion discussions in schools, uplifted in the workplace, the disability community continues to be left out of these important conversations.

This year the event will return to Harvey Milk Promenade Park to meet in person to lift up the voices of people with disabilities, promote pride in disabled bodies, and to celebrate how far the disabled community has come and the work still left to do since the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a donation to ABLE PAC to support the 2023 Long Beach Disability Pride Celebration. The total appropriation increase of $250 in the General Fund in City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Ninth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide ...
