DISCUSSION
The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) was awarded the Officer Wellness and Mental Health Grant Program from the California Board of State and Community Correction (BSCC), in the amount of $520,243. The grant term is July 1, 2022 to December 1, 2025.

The Officer Wellness and Mental Health Grant Program was established in the 2022 Budget Act and provides $50 million for city and county law enforcement agencies for the purpose of improving officer wellness and expanding mental health resources. The funding may be used to establish or expand officer wellness and peer support units, provide services by a licensed mental health professional, counselor, or other professional that works with law enforcement, and expand multiagency mutual aid programs focused on officer wellness and mental health. The funds may also be used to support other programs and services that are evidence-based or have a successful track record of enhancing officer wellness.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Arturo D. Sanchez and Budget Management Officer Nader Kaamoush on February 27, 2023.
