TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $250, offset by the Fifth Council District One-Time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a contribution to The Fix Project; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $250 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

Councilwoman Megan Kerr would like to support the mission of The Fix Project (dba Fix Long Beach <https://fixlongbeachpets.com/about-us/>) to reduce unwanted cats and dogs from ending up in shelters by offering free spay and neuter services to individuals that could not otherwise afford these services, as well as provide low-cost vaccinations, medications, and microchips. This contribution will support the purchase of dog food that was donated to those in attendance at the St. Pawdy’s Day Parade and Pet Adoption event held on March 11, 2023, at Los Cerritos Park. The Fix Project sponsored a free vaccine clinic at the event.

This matter has been reviewed by Recovery Budget Officer Dee Okam on March 9, 2023.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution of $250 to The Fix Project to support the event as written above. The total appropriation increase of $250 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Fifth Council District One-Time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. This recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with this item.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

MEGAN KERR, COUNCILWOMAN
