DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Phillips Steel Company for the furnishing and delivery of as-needed steel and related metals.

This request is for steel and related metals that Airport, Energy Resources, Fire, Financial Management/Fleet Services, Parks, Recreation and Marine, and Public Works Departments use. Departments use steel and related metals in various ways to perform their daily job functions. For example, Fire Department uses this commodity for tool racks, shelving for tools on fire engines, and miscellaneous repair projects, and the Fleet Services uses it for the maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

The bid was advertised in the Long Beach Press-Telegram on August 11, 2022, and 58 potential bidders specializing in steel and related metals were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those potential bidders, six downloaded the bid via the City of Long Beach (City) electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the sixth floor of City Hall, and the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing .
