TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1,700, offset by the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide donations of:
1. $1,000 to support Long Beach Community Table;
2. $250 to Steel Magnolias in support of their 2022 Golf
Tournament;
3. $450 to the Belmont Shore Business Association in support of
the 2022 Belmont Shore Christmas Parade; and
Decrease appropriation in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $1,700, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
Long Beach Community Table is a nonprofit fostering sustainable community to support the well-being, empowerment, and self-determination of food- and housing-insecure local residents. Their network of volunteers source and distribute organic produce, build and cultivate urban gardens, and provide education to enable self-sufficiency. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, they have since expanded their resources to meet the needs of the area, and this donation will help them continue their important work.
Steel Magnolias is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to helping children and families deal with conditions such as autism, cleft lip and palate, birth defects, learning disabilities, and other developmental delays. Each year, the organization engages the community with a variety of charity events to raise money for the Stramski Children’s Developmental Center at Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach. This donation will help support their annual golf tournament, held October 24, 2022.
On Saturday, December 3, 2022, the Belmont Shore Business Association is hosting the 37th Annual Belmont Shore Christmas Parade. One of the largest Christmas celebrations in the region, this parade will showcase over a dozen local marching bands, 100 entries, floats designed by Long Beach businesses, and more....
