DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into contracts with McCain, Inc., and Econolite Control Products, Inc., for the furnishing and delivering of as-needed traffic signal equipment.

The Public Works Department (Public Works) is responsible for the maintenance and repair of over 630 intersections with traffic signals throughout the City of Long Beach (City). The City’s traffic signal system must be
maintained on a regular basis to be kept in working order. Public Works also performs repairs or replacements when traffic signals are damaged in accidents.

The bid was advertised in the Long Beach Press-Telegram on February 19, 2022, and 43 potential bidders specializing in traffic signal equipment were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those bidders, 21 downloaded the bid via the City’s electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the sixth floor of City Hall, and the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing . A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 42 local, minority-owned, and women-owned business groups.
