TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $2,500, offset by the First Council District one-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide a donation to LAWineFest; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $2,500 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

Since 2006 LAWineFest has provided a fun and relaxed environment where individuals can experience wines and brews from around the world. Starting in 2019, LAWineFest began hosting their festival in Long Beach at The Pike Outlets and more recently Harry Bridges Memorial Park. These festivals drew thousands of attendees to the downtown area and introduced them to the beauty of Long Beach.

This year LAWineFest 2022 will occur on June 4 and June 5, 2022 at Harry Bridges Memorial Park.  Here, attendees will be able to enjoy tastings from multiple wine and beer producers against the backdrop of the Queen Mary and the Downtown Long Beach skyline, as well as the beautiful weather that the Long Beach coast provides. LAWineFest has successfully presented the benefits of Long Beach to both residents inside and outside of Long Beach and has additionally provided a fun event for residents of Long Beach. It is appropriate for the City Council to support the LAWineFest2022.

STATEMENT OF URGENCY:

Funding is sought as soon as possible for the event which will be held on June 4 and June 5, 2022.

This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on May 11, 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager Department to provide a contribution to LAWineFest. The total appropriation increase in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department in the amount of $2,500 is offset by a decrease of appropriation of First Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. Implementing this recommendation is anticipated to result in a minimal impact to staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

MARY ZENDEJAS COUNCILWOMAN,
