DISCUSSION

Founded in 1985, the AIDS Food Store (AFS) is committed to ensuring that no one in Long Beach living with HIV/AIDs would ever be without food, love and support. AFS serves men, women and children whose lives have been impacted by HIV/AIDs. They have spent the last two decades providing nutritional support to thousands of clients in the Long Beach area. AFS remains true to its mission: “Until there is no longer a need, the all-volunteer staff of AIDS Food staff of AIDS Food Store will continue to address the issue of hunger in the HIV/AIDS community, be it physical, emotional or spiritual.”

This item was reviewed by Budge Manager Grace H. Yoon on December 17 2021.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager Department to provide a donation to the AIDS Food Store to support the Grocery Pick-up Program. The total appropriation increase of $500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of the Sixth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
